At "Osanidde Village" our "mommas" are all Christian widows who love the Lord and who enjoy caring for their new children. Each house has one "momma" with 10 children -- and together they have become a new "family" unit. The "momma" cooks and cares for her own children, and each "family unit" shares daily meals together in their own home, sitting at their dining room table. Each momma trains her children to do household chores, to keep clean and to wash clothes, and she trains her children in the Lord through early morning prayer time and afternoon Bible story time.
When we asked the girls of "Happy House" what they thought of their new momma, they all began to share how much they appreciated her: "Oh, our new momma is so, so nice. She prays with us, and cooks us good matoke and rice and fish, and she really loves us -- oh, so much!"

On Bussi Island, we were able to visit several places where some of our "Osanidde" children used to live. One horrible shack (pictured above) especially stood out to us. One of our Osanidde girls, a ten-year-old named Justine (she's next to Ann in the blue dress), used to live in this mud shack with her "auntie" after her parents died of AIDS. This tiny place was not only dirty, but ungodly men often came to "visit" her aunt. It was a terrible place, and very unsafe for a growing girl. Yet now, Justine is very happy to live at "Osanidde village." She loves to pray and sing and is very thankful for school where she is learning to read the speak English. Justine's favorite worship song (in her native Luganda language) says, "Nothing compares to the glory of God!"

Every little-bit...makes a
big-difference
in the life of a little child
Currently (as of August, 2008) all 160 children at Osanidde Village are sponsored. However, our biggest need at the moment is that the US dollar is not reaching as far and current food prices in Uganda are skyrocketing (so $1 in 2006 is only worth about 70 cents or less now in 2008).
Also, there is a support need for 450 additional orphans at a second orphanage, "Guma Na Yesu Children's Center", in Mbarara, Uganda. PLEASE PRAY with us.
